Watercolor Renderings for Holiday at the Dallas Arboretum

The Pauline and Austin Neuhoff Family Christmas Village, started its creation as ideas turned into technical drawings at C-Scenic Shop in Dallas. They were able to figure out the structural details and shapes they wanted and called me in to create colorized and detailed renderings of what the individual buildings would look like. This annual installation is inspired by traditional European Christmas Markets. My work on this project transformed an idea into a whimsical, physical reality, starting with this series of intricate watercolor renderings. These designs were used to fundraise for the project’s construction, and to indicate coloration for the paint shop.

Each shop, from the bakery and the apothecary to the toy shop, required a unique visual identity. I used difference architectual elements of varying facade materials, rooflines, and window trims to give the village an “old-world” feel. These designs were scaled up into 16-to-19-foot-tall structures.
